We felt we were in good company, although there were only the staff on the classy yacht next to us - maybe the owners had found somewhere even better to go ...
The town itself was great - lots of classic little fishing boats
The Local's Harbour
The Church
As well as fishing boats, Aigina has Fruit Boats - they were mentioned in the Almanac, and we were intrigued. So - this is where you buy your fresh fruit and veg - all Greek, and the money changes hands on board.
The island is very well supported by Ferries, at least 20 per day came and went at breakneck speed
Aigina Harbour Entrance, complete with a couple of the ferries.
We spent 4 days at anchor, and although the PortaBote is brilliant, the faithful 2hp Yamaha 2 stroke does take its time to get us from Boat to Port. Sorry Pete, we still love it, but it has been relegated to 'reserve'. The amazing Chandlery is Aigina sourced us a new 3.5 engine.
We needed to go to the Town Quay to collect the new outboard. To moor up on these quays you drop your anchor and reverse to the quay where you hope there will be a helpful fellow sailor available to help with your mooring lines. It can all go horribly wrong though - and the result can be interesting!
The culprit - trying to unhook other people's chain from his anchor. Once he had sorted himself out, we went into his space
Surprisingly large yachts use the Town Quays...they probably have their own laundry room on board, but we just hang ours around the boat so everyone can see!
The evening started very peacefully - and then there was the wedding. We didn't realise that music could actually be that loud! It was quite a short night's sleep!
The town is well set up for tourists, and in common with most of the islands, Moped is King
Moped City
The Family Moped - not an unusual sight. Not a helmet in sight.
We are in the background, next to Linda and Eric from Australia on their yacht Nordan - thanks to the lovely Linda for doing our laundry yet again! We really need a washing machine on board - it would go in the spare cabin instead of the cupboard, just take the door frame off to get it in and visitors could put their clothes straight in it. No problem!
So, we are now at anchor in Poros - a beautiful bay, and will be joined shortly by our daughter Clare and Jamie. Assuming they have made it weighed down with a new pressure cooker and a selection of chandlery for the boat..
Poros anchorage
We are now going to spend a couple of weeks in this general area, with a request to find an Amphitheatre and lots of sunshine.
